5 Tips To Perfect Your Cupcake Game

Cupcakes are the fun version of the full on cake. The best part is, you usually don’t share a cupcake! But, getting that perfect cupcake that is moist, tasty, and expertly iced is an art form.

So, here are 5 tips to help you perfect the art!

#1 Quality of your ingredients

When your teeth sink into a cupcake, your taste buds should be overwhelmed with absolute euphoria and bliss. In order to make them fall in love with your creations, consider using top quality ingredients that are always fresh. Regardless of their size, cupcakes can pack a punch of gourmet flavors in their 4-5 bites – so make them count. It will make a significant difference in overall taste.

#2 Do not over-bake

If you had to choose one over the other, opt for under-baking as opposed to over-baking. If you over-bake, there’s no turning back and it won’t be moist on the inside. A good idea is to set 2 timers, that way you can make sure that the cupcakes make it out on time. You’re doing it right when your cupcakes look slightly sunken, rather than peaked. Test them with a toothpick if you’re unsure – if no batter clings to the toothpick, then they’re done.

Side Note: If you’re following the recipe and you’re still over-baking, then it’s recommended you check the temperature of your oven with an oven thermometer to determine it’s true temperature.

#3 Mix lightly

Baking is a delicate art and it needs a delicate hand. So, be more gentle. In order to bake moist and fluffy cupcakes, you need the air bubbles in the batter – the air bubbles expand in the oven giving the cupcake that soft and cloud like texture. When the batter is over mixed, you lose those bubbles as they collapse and you will be left with a dense brick like cupcake. The fix? Mix on a low speed and just as all of the ingredients blend, stop – you’re done!

#4 Room temperature

If you get all of your ingredients to the same temperature (room temperature), they will mix so much easier. For a perfect cupcake, set out the eggs, butter, and other refrigerated ingredients 15-20 minutes before you begin working – you’ll thank me later.

#5 To freeze or not to freeze

Rule of thumb – If you’re going to eat them right away, then store them at room temperature. However, if you are planning on eating them the next day, freezing will actually retain their moisture better than leaving them on the table overnight.
